Who We Are

York Inspirational Kids – a group for parents/families of children with a disability and/or additional need. . offering support, friendship, activities, training and outings for both children and their families who live in the York area.

Disabled children can be some of the most disadvantaged in society and our aim is to make their childhood as happy and fulfilled as possible. We try to remove barriers to enable disabled children to access and sample what life has to offer.

We have regular fundraising events and welcome corporate sponsorship, one off donations or raffle prizes. If you are looking to adopt a local charity that provides services to local people then please give us a call on 01904 780880 or send a message

What We Do


— We Find & Fund

Fundraising provides essentials funds for York Inspirational Kids (YIK) and York Ausome Kids (YAK)

Our Company number is 09520937 – we are a not-for-profit business, and all activities are provided through grants and donations.


— We Support

We Support each other online, helping families through difficult periods when caring for disabled and additional needs children in York.

We  offer information and signposting to help families through difficult periods as well as offering social events so that families can meet informally.


— We Provide

We provide activities designed for disabled young people, their siblings and families in York.

Activities such as arts, theatre, puppets, film, craft, Family bowling and Theatre trips and more…


— We Help Others

We have more sub-groups in York

York Ausome Kids – for parents/carers of children with autism, aspergers and/or PDA
York Hemi Kids  – for parents of children with hemiplegia. 
Plus many other groups covering education, health and care to ensure we’re meeting the needs of all our children with disabilities and/or additional needs.

Through our Parent Carer Forum we ask questions and share information in a safe environment. Latest news from the local council, government and other bodies is shared within this group as well as information on available groups, grants, trips and events.

To me inspirational kids have made amazing positive changes to me as a special needs parent. I have met some super special people from the group who have turned into best life long friends!

Nicole Faraday is an award winning television, film and theatre actress best known for her portrayal of Snowball Merriman, the glamorous murderess in two series of ITV's smash-hit television series BAD GIRLS, also recently rescreened on CBS. She is also familiar as former series regular Dr Heather Lincoln in BBC's CASUALTY, and most recently as man-eater Veronica in ITV's EMMERDALE.


West End star Shona White - first ever patron of Playhouse Theatre. With starring roles in Chess, Wicked, Les Miserables, Shout, Mamma Mia and Rocky Horror. Shona White is one of the most highly acclaimed Scottish stars in Theatreland. Shona started singing solos at school services and in her village church as a child. Shona likes to spend time with her nearest and dearest, watch movies and she love cooking.


Ryan Swain is a television, radio presenter and comedian from Malton Malton-born Ryan Swain is a presenter, DJ and comedian. When he’s not entertaining the masses, he’s hanging out with Craig David, eating ice cream with his twin daughters, and raising money for charity Ryan was born in Malton, and even though he performed nationwide and sometimes internationally, he's still very passionate about being from Yorkshire.
